South Georgia State College (SGSC) prides itself in providing the academic foundation a student will need in order to achieve long-term goals. The faculty members are specialists in their field and will challenge students in the classroom. They are also available outside of class if one should have questions, because they strive for success. There are 20 Associate of Arts and Associate of Science pathways of study which transfer to other institutions, and one Associates of Science degree that prepares students for a career as a Registered Nurse. In addition to academic offerings, SGSC provides students with a full college experience that is affordable. The Douglas Campus includes two residence halls, which offer the conveniences of taking classes, and becoming involved in campus life, while staying in a own home away from home atmosphere.

SGSC offers three bachelor’s degrees: the Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences (BSBS), Management (BSM), and Nursing (BSN). The BSBS degree gives students two tracks: the nature and ecology track engages students in unique ecological sites in the region including the Okefenokee Swamp Park, while the pre-professional track is designed to meet the prerequisite courses for entry into the professions of medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, and other health-related fields. The BSM degree is designed to target both traditional students and working adults who are in, or aspiring to be in, middle management roles or small business owners with multifaceted roles. The BSN degree provides increased career opportunities for students and stronger healthcare services for our communities by training students under the teachings of exceptional nursing faculty in excellent nursing lab facilities.

South Georgia State College serves as an economic engine by developing an educated workforce and by creating jobs for the surrounding area. According to the latest figures for the University System of Georgia, SGSC has an economic impact of $65.3 million to the community.

SGSC athletics has a rich tradition of successful seasons and bringing home championships.
